Clinical roles
The clinical team is led by Medical Director Michael Davis, MD and Dental Director John Arrowood, DDS, MD, with volunteer physicians, PAs, dentists, and nurses alongside.
Primary Care Provider
Clinical
Physicians, NPs, and PAs see patients for primary care visits.
Requirements: Active or volunteer NC license. Ask us how North Carolina's charitable-clinic liability protections apply to volunteer providers.
Specialist Provider
Clinical
Volunteer specialists see patients by appointment in their area of practice.
Requirements: Active or volunteer NC license.
Dental Provider
Clinical
Dentists provide exams, cleanings, and extractions in our on-site dental suite.
Requirements: Active or volunteer NC dental license.
Clinical support: RN, LPN, CNA, CMA, MA
Clinical
Triage, vitals, patient prep, and the steady hands that keep clinic days moving.
Requirements: Current credential in your field.
Dental Hygienist / Dental Assistant
Clinical
Assist our volunteer dentists during exams, cleanings, and extractions.
Requirements: Current NC credential.
Pharmacist / Pharmacy Technician
Clinical
Fill prescriptions and counsel patients in our on-site pharmacy.
Requirements: Current NC license or registration.
Phlebotomist / Lab Technician

Draws and testing in our CLIA-certified lab.

What clinicians ask first
Liability
North Carolina law protects clinicians who volunteer at charitable clinics. Ask us how coverage works at MERCI and we'll walk you through the details before your first shift.
Licensure
Active NC licenses work as-is. If you're retired or licensed out of state, North Carolina has volunteer-practice pathways, and our Medical Director will help you sort out what applies.
Time
We ask all volunteers to commit to two 4-hour shifts per month, a minimum of 8 hours monthly. We schedule around your life, and clinical support staff handle the prep so your hours go to patients.
