Flu Shots - Now Prepping for the 2021-2022 Season!

MERCI Clinic in New Bern is looking for a volunteer to help with our vaccination program.  In preparation for the fall respiratory season, we need some help to provide COVID, pneumococcal, and influenza vaccinations for our patients.  The position would require about 3-4 hours every other week.  A licensed nurse, pharmacist, or alternative healthcare worker would be fantastic!  If you are interested, please fill out the volunteer form or call Sue Hall at 252-633-1599.

Process:  Due to Covid-19, we have modified our immunization process.  Patients will park in the large parking lot that we share with PORT.  Upon arrival, patients will be symptom and temperature screened and asked about contact with ill individuals.  While waiting in their vehicle, patients will be given a clipboard with the current Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) and the Vaccine Screening Questionnaire to complete.  The back room will be rearranged into two socially distanced immunization areas with privacy screens, staffed by two Walgreens immunizing pharmacists.  After completing the Vaccine Screening Questionnaire and reading the VIS, patients will wait in their vehicle until escorted by staff into the building to receive their vaccination and then escorted back to their vehicle to wait the required 15 minutes.  Staff will be outside monitoring patients in their vehicles for any vaccine related adverse reactions.  We have 48 appointment slots for each 4 hour Flu Shot Clinic.
