Barb Krcmar
Executive Director

Barb comes to MERCI with more than 15 years experience in the nonprofit world, both in operations and fund development. Barb also draws on her experience in the business and banking sectors.

Barb is a native Philadelphian and has been a New Bernian for over 22 years. Barb is proud of her three awesome children and stays busy with her interests in cooking, hiking, reading and the beach.

The Clinic Manager manages the clinic's day-to-day operations and is the main link between patients and the medical staff. Responsible for the development, planning, directing, and coordinating of clinical operations. You must have a Nursing License (RN< NP, DNP) and managerial experience. Interested? Sue Hall, PharmD, RPh

Pharmacy Manager

Sue started at MERCI Clinic as a volunteer pharmacist in 2016.  Previously, Sue spent 13 years working as a clinical pharmacist and in clinical research and publications for hospice patients in the Philadelphia area.  She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia and completed her residency in pharmacy health system population management at Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, WA. 

Sue lives with her father and her pathologically disobedient dog, Quincy.  Sue enjoys international travel and has visited countries throughout Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.

Jennifer Jenkins, PA-C

Primary Care Provider
 

Jennifer Jenkins joined MERCI in April 2018 as our on-staff primary care provider. Jennifer was born and raised in California and received her medical training at the University of Washington School of Medicine where she received her PA degree in 1989. In 1996 she moved to the Outer Banks and has worked in Family Practice and Urgent Care in Eastern North Carolina ever since. Currently living in Havelock, Jennifer enjoys reading, dog walks and golf in her free time.​

Susan Lucas, PhD

Eligibility Coordinator

Susan comes from Bay Village, Ohio and moved to New Bern 12 years ago, enjoying the water and the golf. She has an extensive background in academia, earning a PhD in Sociology at Penn State in 1988, after completing her Bachelors and Masters at Case Western Reserve in 1978. Susan joined the MERCI Clinic team in June 2018 as a volunteer and then became a staff member in December 2018. Prior to her work here, she volunteered as a special event coordinator at Religious Community Services in New Bern and also worked as the Executive Director at Coastal Women’s Shelter. In her spare time, Susan enjoys quilting, kayaking, reading and cooking.

Denise Turner, RN, BSN, ADN

Nurse Coordinator

Denise is originally from Askins, NC, but has been in Craven County for over 35 years, settling here after her father got out of the Air Force. She attended UNCW where she earned her BSN, She has worked over 16 years in Critical Care/ICU at Carolina East Medical Center. She came to MERCI first as a volunteer and was quickly hired as the Nurse Coordinator in July 2019. When she is not working, she enjoys many hobbies including photography and gardening and is very passionate about her faith. She has a menagerie of children, grandchildren, cats, bunnies, and one dog.
