Certified Diabetes Educator

The Part time RN-Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) works collaboratively as an active member of the inter-professional team to provide therapeutic patient and family centered care. This person provides education to individuals and families on a wide variety of topics with an emphasis on diabetes education. The CDE systematically and continuously collects and assesses data related to patient health status to develop, execute and evaluate the plan of care, establishes goals and strategies for meeting care coordination needs across settings., with the patient, family, and/or other care providers. The CDE considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and fiscal accountability in planning and delivering care. The CDE is a valuable part of MERCI Clinic. Must be able to supervise volunteers and meet guidelines and protocols established by the clinic and significant funding partners.

 

Education: Minimum-- BSN

Work Experience: Minimum-- 3-5 years ambulatory RN experience

Licenses & Certification: Minimum: Current Registration in NC, Certification by the National Board of Diabetes Educators

 

  Approximately 16- 20 hours/week. Must Work Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00AM-5:00PM plus additional hours as needed.  

Pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Interpreter

Spanish translators/interpreters translate verbal communication in real time, delivering messages in both English and Spanish between multiple parties, reciting everything verbatim. They may also clearly and precisely read written documents out loud in both languages. There are times when additional clarification may be needed.

Translator Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review documents that need to be translated

  • Translate documents from English into Spanish or vice versa

  • Proofread all work to ensure accuracy

  • Listen to Spanish telephone line to receive patient information and to call patient back to give the appropriate information

  • Able translate/interpret for provider to patient or nurse to patient when needed. Able to serve as a liaison between MERCI Clinic and the patient when necessary.

  • Able to screen Hispanic Patients for Covid-19 sign & symptoms prior to entering the building upon arrival for appointments

 

Translator Requirements and Qualifications

  • College Coursework in Spanish, Translation and/or Interpretation Preferred

  • Fluent in both spoken and written English and Spanish

  • Experience in translating/interpreting in a medical facility and an understanding of medical terminology preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Flexible schedule

  • Proficient with use of office equipment

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Acting as Interpreter between a wide range of people with diverse voices, accents, speaking tempos and personalities

 

Part-Time Spanish/English Interpreter: 20-22 hours per week Monday through Thursdays and sometimes Friday.

Pay is commensurate with education and experience.

Clinic Manager

The full time Clinic Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the clinic and is the main link between patients and the medical staff.   Responsible for the development, planning, directing and coordinating of clinical operations.  Ensures the facility and its staff/volunteers adhere to established protocols and regulations.  Ensures patients receive efficient and compassionate care and may provide direct care as needed.*  Promotes cost-effective care procedures.  Undertakes projects to positively impact, improve and automate the delivery of health care.  Remains fiscally responsible, maintains cost control and performs quality assurance.

 

*Clinic days must be on the floor. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prefer minimum of 5 years experience in medical/health care management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and unrestricted license to practice as an RN, NP, or DNP.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing staff/volunteers.

  • Understanding of nonprofit clinic structure and mission.

 

RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Oversees the work of clinical operations and personnel, including chart audits, nursing, clinical, lab,  and diabetic education to ensure patient safety.

  • Implements clinical policies and procedures; QA/QI.

  • Performs risk management.

  • Hires, orients, trains, schedules, and evaluated clinical staff/volunteers.

  • Leads and motivates staff to ensure good staff morale.
